Welcome to Hastings Photography Group

The Hastings Photography Group was formed in 2010 and since then has grown in size and ambition.

It is an incorporated club with an active committee.
The current membership is 48 ( January 2024)

Membership is open to any person ; beginner , intermediate or experienced photographer , who wants to develop their photography skills in a friendly club environment.

About us

We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month from January to November at 7.00 pm at Emerald Downs Community Centre behind the Lighthouse Plaza Shopping Centre, 100 Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie , NSW OR at 2pm at Laurieton United Service Club in Laurieton – keep an eye on the event calendar for relevant venue information.

Membership Fees are:

Full year membership:   $50.00         July to June

Half year membership:  $25.00         if you join during January – April

If you join in May or June, please pay $50.00 which includes full membership for the following financial year.

You will then be provided additional information about being registered on the HPG website, how to navigate the site and enter competitions.

Members are charged $5.00 per meeting to cover cost of room hire and refreshments at Club Meetings.

Shelly Beach Sunset Photoshoot and picnic dinner

Time:                    5:00pm – Sunset  (around 7pm)

Meet At:              Shelley Beach carpark

The plan:             Low tide is around 4pm so the rock pools should still be exposed.  A full moon will rise just before 7pm in the east and so, weather permitting, we should have plenty of photo opportunities.  The plan is for both a photo shoot and a social catchup with partners and friends all welcome.

Bring:                   Camera and tripod if you have one.

                              A folding chair

                              Drinks and nibblies

                              Mozzie repellent

                              Picnic dinner if you’d like.

Coffs Harbour Botanical Gardens

Time:                    10.30am at Coffs Harbour Botanical Gardens

Meet At:              Coffs Harbour Regional Botanical Gardens Main Entrance Gate – Hardacre Street at the corner of Coffs Street, Coffs Harbour

Info:                     Approximately 1 hour 45 minute drive from Port Macquarie

The plan:             Explore the gardens, tropical glass shade house, ponds and lake and wildlife.  There are plenty of resting seats and picnic areas.  The Visitors Shop at the entrance sells gifts, soft drinks and ice creams however the café is currently closed.  Pack snacks and  a picnic lunch to enjoy together in the shade.

Carpooling:        Please organise between yourselves or contact Sue Lawson by email and she may be able to organise a seat for you.  Petrol contributions for passengers can be organised personally with the driver.

Admission fee:  Free – Partners and friends all welcome.

Photoshoot Watonga Rocks, Lighthouse Beach

Time:                    6:30pm – Sunset  (around 8pm)

Meet At:              North side of Watonga Rocks

Park:                     Carpark on Matthew Flinders Drive, Lighthouse Beach

The plan:             Come out in the early evening and capture the reflections and colours of the beach, the waves, the sunset, birdlife etc.

Bring:                   Camera and tripod if you have one.

Urunga Wetlands and Boardwalk and Pub Lunch

Date:                                     Thursday, 23rd November

Meeting time:                    9:00am

Meeting Place:                  Urunga Wetlands Carpark, Hillside Drive, Urunga (approximately 1hr and 20 minutes from Port Macquarie Follow this link for map and information.

                                               A drink and snacks to keep you going until lunch.

Details:                                 There’s a 0.6klm loop boardwalk across the wetlands with good bird watching and photo opportunities, e.g. reflections of paperbarks on dark water.  We’ll enjoy the Wetlands and then drive a short distance to Urunga Boardwalk in the town of Urunga. Get inspired and have a look at the following boardwalk link –  https://www.visitnsw.com/destinations/north-coast/coffs-harbour-area/urunga/attractions/urunga-boardwalk There is a 3klm coastal  boardwalk (out and back) with spectacular views, sea life, birdlife and plenty of nature photo opportunities.  Following our photo shoot we’ll retire to the Urunga Pub for lunch.

Bago Winery and Maze

Date:                                   Tuesday, 31st October.

Details:                               The jacarandas should be in full bloom and the vineyard should have new growth so we hope for some beautiful landscapes.  The maze also offer plenty of photo opportunities. There is a coffee bar open serving a range of drinks and light cakes.  Other food options are limited to Cheese and Charcuterie platters.  If you prefer to bring your own picnic food then that’s fine too.
