Welcome to Hastings Photography Group

The Hastings Photography Group was formed in 2010 and since then has grown in size and ambition.

It is an incorporated club with an active committee.
The current membership is 53 ( May 2024)

Membership is open to any person ; beginner , intermediate or experienced photographer , who wants to develop their photography skills in a friendly club environment.

About us

We meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month from January to November at 7.00 pm at Emerald Downs Community Centre behind the Lighthouse Plaza Shopping Centre, 100 Ocean Drive, Port Macquarie , NSW OR at 2pm at Laurieton United Service Club in Laurieton – keep an eye on the event calendar for relevant venue information.

Membership Fees are:

Full year membership:   $50.00         July to June

Half year membership:  $25.00         if you join during January – April

If you join in May or June, please pay $50.00 which includes full membership for the following financial year.

You will then be provided additional information about being registered on the HPG website, how to navigate the site and enter competitions.

Members are charged $5.00 per meeting to cover cost of room hire and refreshments at Club Meetings.

Lunch and Photoshoot

12:30pm  — meet for lunch in the LUSC Boardwalk Bistro  Link   à

1:15pm*  — move outside to photograph subjects in bright daylight

and shaded areas using correct camera settings to minimise burnout (blinkies) and also maintain detail in dark areas

2:00pm* — Return to ANZAC Room to review and process images in    the Photoshop and Affinity workshop groups

Field Trip—Linda’s Garden

Field Trip to Linda’s Garden  (Lighthouse Beach area)

Photography Techniques and related Camera Settings

In this workshop we will look at more techniques to improve your photography. There will be brief instructions on the following topics:

  • Exposure Compensation: overriding the camera’s auto exposure setting
  • Mode Settings: when to use Aperture — Shutter — Manual — Auto
  • Focus Tracking: predictive focus to track moving objects/action shots
  • then out in the garden to practise above techniques using back button focussing on selected subjects. Images will be reviewed by the convener
  • Also an opportunity to ask our experts about any queries or problems you may have, including camera set-up menus

Convener: John Smith and others                    Cost: $5·00 cash on the day

You will be requested to register for this event for seating and catering reasons.  Limit — 15

Linda has once again kindly offered to host a meeting in her beautiful garden

We will use the sheltered deck for our tutorial session and then out in the garden to capture shots

We’ll also be treated to Linda’s Devonshire teas mid morning —the other reason to attend

Please bring your camera for the workshop  —  and you may just get that competition shot!
